Low Glycemic Diet – Your Key To Safe Fast Weight Loss

A low glycemic diet can not only help you lose weight and keep it off, it can greatly enhance your health. It is a very healthy weight loss eating plan.

However, changing from your present diet plan to a low Glycemic one can be extremely challenging. Most of us get into the habit of eating certain foods and avoiding others. More than likely, you eat the same foods on a regular basis.

It can take a lot of will power and a strong desire to change the way you eat. It’s for this reason that most people fail at losing weight, the change is too difficult.

There are two ways that you can implement a new eating regime into your life, and it really depends on the type of person you are. For some, it’s best to go all out, all at once, while for others a more gradual approach is what is needed.

The key is to select the approach that is right for you.

Going All Out – Making Drastic Changes in the Way You Eat.

Some people prefer to make drastic changes in their diet and try to eliminate all of their bad eating habits at once. Going “cold turkey” and eliminating all of the unhealthy foods that you have come to love, is a big step to take.

If you feel that the all or nothing approach is the way to go, there are three things that you must do if you are to be successful.

First, throw out or give away the foods that you want to avoid. If they are not in your house, you can’t eat them.

Second, create a shopping list of low to moderate Glycemic Index foods, that you like and use it when you go shopping. Fill your pantry with your favorite low to moderate Glycemic Index foods and snacks that are nutrient rich – and if you are trying to lose weight also low in calories.

Third, Pre-plan your meals and snacks using the Glycemic Index List as a guide. By doing this you are less likely to fall back into your old eating habits.

Gradual Changes in your Diet

Many believe that slow and steady wins the race. If this is you then the gradual approach is the right way to get into the healthy eating habit. When you gradually introduce foods, you tend to gravitate to the unhealthy options in your fridge.

But you’re certainly not destined to a life of eating unhealthy foods, even with the slow and steady approach, change will eventually happen.

Begin with a list of healthy low to moderate Glycemic Index foods that you like, and slowly add them to your shopping list. You’ll find that eventually you will be making healthy choices and find it easier to eat foods that low to moderate on the Glycemic Index.

It’s also a good idea to pre-plan your meals and snacks as suggested above.

Why Make the Change?

While changing to a low glycemic diet can be very challenging, once you get into the habit of eating healthy, you will never go back to junk food. Not only will you lose weight quickly, you’ll have more energy, reduce the risk of a number of diseases and make weight loss a permanent part of your life.
